TICKET GIVEAWAY! Deer Tick + Fun + Virgin Forest at UPenn 10/14

I'm thrilled to announce my very first ticket giveaway for the Deer Tick and Fun show this Friday! The show will take place at the Harrison Auditorium on UPenn's campus. I'm very curious to see how a rock show will pan out in such a formal setting... More info HERE.

Virgin Forest will open. Download their single "South Beach" for free HERE (right click, save as) and purchase their album Joy Atrophy HERE.

Despite my already overcrowded inbox, I've decided that the best and most fair way to do this is via email. I will then randomly pick a winner by picking a name out of a hat (or something very similar).

-You MUST like my Facebook page as well as follow me on Twitter. Because I said so. Please provide how your name is listed for both accounts so that I can verify this.

-Email phillymostlyvegan at gmail dot com with "I WANT TO SEE DEER TICK AND FUN" as the SUBJECT before NOON on THURSDAY.

-Provide your first and last NAME in the body of the email, or however your name is listed on whichever form of ID you will use to pick up tickets. This just makes sense. (ONE PAIR of tickets will be in your name.)

-Once I randomly pick a winner, you will receive an email Thursday afternoon/evening confirming that you have won.

-Go to show. Have fun!

Deer Tick is comprised of John McCauley, Chris Ryan, Dennis Ryan, Ian O'Neil, and Rob Crowell. The band came together in Providence, Rhode Island in 2004. fun. is Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Their debut album, Aim and Ignite, produced 3 singles in the span of over a year and charted at #71 on the Billboard 200 and #20 on the Billboard Alternative Albums. fun. has toured with bands such as Paramore, Jack’s Mannequin, and Panic! At the Disco (with whom they released the single “C’mon” earlier this summer). fun. also has a new album due out in early 2012. The first single, We Are Young, can be heard on their website.

Ex members of Castanets, VIRGIN FOREST members currently play in Phosphorescent. Countless tours and shows with those outfits have helped to forge fluidity and musical rapport seldom heard in bands today. Virgin Forest and Phosphorescent both offer a unique take on traditionally "American" music but the similarities end there. Virgin Forest's debut LP, "Joy Atrophy," like Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors," is the sound of love being pulled apart from the inside. Few modern recordings offer both perspectives on a breakup performed essentially in real time. Just as songs on "Rumors" act as barbs/parting shots/goodbyes, rendered all the more heartbreaking by the complicity required of the aggrieved parties, so do Virgin Forest's offerings. The LP stands as necessary culmination of protracted and self-destructive love, laid bare in aching but poker-faced vocal harmonies. In its economic and punk 27 minutes "Joy Atrophy" effortlessly updates one of the oldest and most fundamental narratives people choose to set to music.
