The Limousines - "Internet Killed the Video Star" MP3, Video

Check out this west coast (San Francisco Bay Area, to be more specific) duo for some straight-forward electro pop tunes. Not a frequent club goer myself, I can't help but picture their song "Internet Killed the Video Star" (free download below) being remixed to make a perfect dance beat (again, not that I'm a dancer). "Well I'm a horrible dancer, I ain't gonna lie / but I'll be damned if that means that I ain't gonna try"

GROUPLOVE + Walk the Moon at Johnny Brenda's 6/16

GROUPLOVE is one of those rare bands that you can always have high expectations for performance-wise, because they will meet them every single time. Their show at Johnny Brenda's last night was no exception. Adding to my excitement was the announcement of their album title, release date, and track listing earlier that day (Never Trust a Happy Song - September 13th).

The Dodos + Gauntlet Hair at the TLA 6/11

The Dodos have certainly always been on my radar, but never quite made it to my top plays in iTunes - or even my shower playlist - until their latest album, No Color. It's had me pressing repeat for weeks now for many reasons, be it the addition of Neko Case's vocals, the well-crafted songs, or simply good timing mood-wise (you know how you have to catch certain bands at the right time?). It became clear to me that I needed to see them live. Lucky for me, they played the TLA last Saturday night, and I finally got to see what they're all about.

The Postelles + The Dig + Ambassadors at Kung Fu Necktie 6/10

Days after their self-titled debut album, The Postelles headlined Kung Fu Necktie last Friday night. Listed as simply, "rock," these four boys from New York have a way of combining old and new, leaving you feeling like you just left a sock hop at your high school, and at the same time, reminding you of bands like Neon Trees.

BOBBY + Led to Sea at The Church 6/9

Man, where do I even start with this show? I've been blasting BOBBY on my site for a while now, so needless to say, I had high expectations. I wasn't exactly sure how their sound would translate in the oh-so-wonderfully-sweaty basement of The Church. Luckily, the result was a beautiful showcase of this band's talent.

Darry Miller & The Veil play North Star Bar 6/14

Guards (and Writer) opened for Cults at Johnny Brenda's 6/7

I was stoked to see Guards play live, as I've been listening to their music nonstop recently. That excitement was only perpetuated by seeing a live session that the band did for MTV (see my favorite from the session below).

BOBBY (and Led to Sea) are opening for Thao & Mirah at The Church tonight

I don't usually post show previews the day of, but I'm too freaking excited for this one. For some reason I assumed that it would be upstairs, but there is no reference or mention of it on the event page. Looks like it will be a sweaty one! What a great day for a basement show... I really hope I'm wrong.

Sondre Lerche + Nightlands + Kishi Bashi at World Cafe Live 6/3

7 years, 7 shows, and 7 albums later, I can't help but turn into my wide-eyed 15-year-old self (when I first discovered his amazing talent) whenever I attend one of his shows.

Sondre Lerche - Interview

I sat down with Sondre Lerche before his World Cafe Live performance on 6/3. Check out what he had to say about returning to performing with a band, his latest self-titled album and living in Brooklyn. (Check back for my live review and photos!)

Creepoid - Tour Kickoff with Nothing (playing KFN 6/23)

I'm glad I ventured out to KFN last month to see Creepoid, as I will be away on vacation for their next Philly show, back to KFN on June 23rd. While I'm bummed, I'm happy to see that these guys are doing good things, like this - embarking on a short tour with their pals Nothing. Check out my review of Creepoid's show at The Church back in March here, and my story in the latest JUMP issue here.

The Postelles - Album, Tour (playing Kung Fu Necktie 6/10)

The first time that I saw The Postelles was when they opened for Free Energy at The Church back in February. Check out my review here. I'm definitely glad to see the four-piece rock band from New York back in Philly again so soon. They're playing at Kung Fu Necktie this Friday, the 10th. And as of Tuesday June 7th you can check out their self-titled debut, which was produced by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.

Kingsfoil - Mimic Contest

More than just your simple look-alike contest, Kingsfoil have started fun and unique mimic contest, which I think sounds like an awesome idea. Rules? Simple. You just have to create a video covering a Kingsfoil song! (Or any song you think Kingsfoil would rock covering.)
